Crispy Pan Fried Tofu Recipe – Simple And Easy To Do

1. Crispy Pan-Fried Tofu Recipe

Ingredients

  • A block of extra-firm Tofu (15-16 ounces) 
  • 4-5 tablespoons of olive oil (or any vegetable oil)
  • Salt (optional)

Instructions – How To Fry Tofu

Step 1: First, you soak the blocks of tofu in warm salted water (in the ratio of 4 water, ¼ salt) for 5 – 15 minutes, drain then cut the pieces into cubes and put them all in a zip lock bag. Finally, put the zip lock bag in the freezer for about 30 minutes. This step will help your fried tofu dish become crispy; tofu cubes will have a nice golden color and won’t stick or break when fried.

Step 2: Place a skillet on the stove over medium-high heat and drizzle the olive oil (4-5 tablespoons).

Step 3: Once the oil is nice and hot, release the top tofu cubes into the skillet. (* ensure to place the tofu pieces in a single layer without over-lapping)

Step 4: Cook each side of the tofu cubes for 3 minutes. Do not stir. Leave the Tofu alone until they are beautifully golden brown. Then, flip the side using tongs.

Transfer to a cooling rack.

Once cooled, serve the crispy fried Tofu seasoned with salt or along with a sauce/dip. Consume within a few hours of frying or else they will no longer be crispy and instead turn chewy. You can also add the fried tofu cubes to various stir-fry recipes.

Tips When Frying Tofu

In the absence of a non-stick pan or an old non-stick pan, you can use a piece of fresh ginger to rub around the bottom and sides of the pan to create a smooth film before adding oil to the fry. This greasy film will combine with the oil to keep the tofu from sticking.

In addition, while frying, unfortunately, tofu sticks to the pan, do not rush to remove the tofu immediately. Instead, turn off the stove, then tilt the oil to one side, wait for the pan to cool down, then the tofu will peel off without being crushed.
