  • 1 teaspoon tablespoon olive oil (for greasing the skillet)
  • A wide skillet, paper towels, & tongs

How long to cook ham steak

It takes about 20 minutes to cook ham steak.

Step 1: Begin by removing the ham steak from the packet and pat dry with a paper towel.

Step 2: Place the skillet on the stove on high heat. Grease the skillet with oil.

Step 3: Once the skillet is hot, transfer the whole ham steak into it. Cook this side for a minute on high heat, then lower the heat to medium and continue cooking for 3 more minutes.

Step 4: While the first side is getting nicely browned, the top un-cooked side of the steak may release some water. Take 1-2 paper towels and dab gently on the top of the ham steak to dry the meat. This helps the meat get a delicious brown color.

Step 5: Now, flip the steak and adjust the heat to medium-high. Cook for a minute and lower the heat to medium and cook for 3 more minutes. Remove the cooked steak from the skillet.  Do not turn off the stove.

Step 6: Add the butter into the hot skillet and let it melt. Next, add the brown sugar and stir it with the melted butter for 2-3 seconds.

Step 7: Transfer the cooked ham steak into the skillet and cook for 5 minutes on medium-low heat.

Step 8: Flip the steak and cook the other side for 5 minutes on low heat. Turn off the stove, remove the steak on a dish, and serve. Cut the ham steak into smaller pieces and serve along with sautéed or baked veggies.
