How to cook jasmine rice perfect every time? This is the question that many people often look for when they want to cook this type of rice. That is why today I will share and instruct you on how to cook jasmine rice in 3 different ways without being soggy.
1. How To Cook Jasmine Rice on Stovetop
Ingredients
- 2 cups white jasmine rice
- 2 ½ cups of water ( jasmine rice to water ratio is 1 cup Rice : 1¼ cup water )
- A pot with a well-fitted lid & a fork/spatula
Instructions
Step 1: Wash the rice with cold tap water in a bowl. Stir the rice with your hands to remove the starch. Drain the water and rinse 1-2 times until the water is no longer cloudy.
Step 2: Pour 2 ½ cups of water into a pot and place it on the stove on high heat. Wait for the water to come to a boil.
Step 3: Add 2 cups of rinsed rice to the pot of boiling water. Stir once and wait until the water comes to a boil again.
Step 4: Place a well-fitted lid on the pot (so that the steam doesn’t escape). Adjust the heat to medium-low and cook jasmine rice for 15 minutes.
Step 5: Next, turn off the stove and let it sit for 10 minutes. Lastly, remove the lid. Fluff the cooked rice to release the moisture and serve.
2. How To Cook Jasmine Rice in Rice Cooker
Ingredients
- 2 cup Jasmine rice
- 2 ½ cup of water
- A pinch of salt (optional)
- A rice cooker, colander, & fork/spatula
Instructions
Step 1: Wash the rice with cold tap water in a bowl. Stir the rice with your hands to remove the starch. Drain the water and rinse 1-2 times until the water is no longer cloudy.
Step 2: Add the rice as well as 1 cup of water into the rice cooker. You may add a pinch of salt if you desire. Stir the seasoning and cover with the lid.
Step 3: Now plug in the rice cooker and press the cook button (or whichever cooking button is present in your rice cooker). It will take about 20-25 minutes to cook.
Step 4: After the rice is cooked. Turn off the rice cooker and let the rice sit covered for 10 more minutes.
Finally, remove the lid, fluff the rice with a fork/spatula, and serve warm. Enjoy the warm jasmine rice with any vegetable/meat curry.
3. How To Cook Jasmine Rice in Instant Pot
Ingredients
- 2 cup of jasmine rice
- 2 ½ cup of water
- ¼ teaspoon salt (or use as preferred) (optional)
- An instant pot & spatula
Instructions
Step 1: Start by cleaning the rice under running cool tap water to get rid of dirt and starch. Shake off the excess water and transfer the rice to the instant pot.
Step 2: Add a cup of water and season with salt. Stir the rice once, close the lid, and adjust the valve to seal.
Step 3: Plug in the instant pot and choose a setting
If you choose RICE SETTING then the instant pot will set the time automatically.
If you choose PRESSURE COOKER SETTING then set the time to 3 minutes at a high temperature.
As the jasmine rice finishes cooking (in any of the above settings), let the rice rest in the instant pot for 10 minutes.
In case you have cooked the rice in the pressure cooker setting, release the pressure (after the rice has rested) by turning the valve to venting.
Step 4: Remove the lid, fluff the rice, and serve immediately.
4. How To Fix Jasmine Rice is Mushy
If your jasmine rice is mushy, you can use slices of bread to fix this problem.
First, you open the lid of the pot, use a ladle to beat the rice, then put 2 slices of bread on top. Finally, close the lid and turn on the stove to cook on low heat for 5 minutes or turn on the cook button if using a rice cooker
This reheat will speed up the evaporation process. Meanwhile, the bread slices will be responsible for absorbing excess moisture in jasmine rice.
