Also known as Taylor ham or Trenton pork roll, pork roll is a unique New Jersey specialty. This seasoned smoked pork product sizzled up for breakfast or lunch never disappoints. In this article, I will instruct you how to cook pork roll in 4 different ways.

1. How To Cook Pork Roll in Oven

  • 8 thin sliced pieces of pork roll
  • Nonstick cooking spray

Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and lightly coat with nonstick spray.

Lay the sliced pork roll evenly in a single layer across the sheet. Make sure the slices don’t overlap.

Bake for 6 minutes then gently flip each slice. Continue baking another 4-7 minutes until lightly browned and sizzling around the edges.

For added flavor, brush the tops of the pork roll slices with maple syrup or honey before baking. Or sprinkle with red pepper flakes for a kick of heat.

2. How To Cook Pork Roll in Air Fryer

  • 6 thick sliced pieces of pork roll
  • 1/2 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil

Brush both sides of each pork roll slice lightly with oil.

Arrange the oiled pork roll in a single layer in the air fryer basket, without overlapping.

Cook at 360°F for 5-7 minutes, gently flipping halfway through.

Cook until slightly puffed and browned.

Feel free to add seasonings like onion/garlic powder, paprika or cayenne before air frying.

3. How To Cook Pork Roll in Pan

  • 5 thick sliced pieces pork roll
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp olive oil

Heat butter and oil in a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Meanwhile, score the pork roll slices 3-4 times around the edges

Add pork roll slices in a single layer and fry for 2 minutes until undersides turn golden.

Flip pork roll and fry second sides for 1-2 minutes until browned.

For fun variations, try frying in bacon grease instead of oil/butter or serve topped with over-easy fried eggs.

4. How To Cook Pork Roll in Microwave

  • 2 thick sliced pieces of pork roll

Layer pork roll slices between paper towels on a microwave-safe plate.

Microwave on HIGH in 30 second intervals until warm and slightly crispy around the edges, about 60 seconds total.

Customize your microwaved pork roll by topping with a slice of cheese, fried egg, or avocado.

Crispy, salty and oh so satisfying, perfectly cooked pork roll is right at home on a breakfast sandwich or served alongside eggs any style. Now you can achieve diner-quality results easily using 4 different kitchen appliances.
