How long to cook shrimp?

Shrimps cook pretty fast. They are ready in about 3-5 minutes! Even if you cook in bulk amounts or opt for large-sized shrimps, it only takes a few minutes to cook them.

How do you know when shrimp is done cooking?

The color of the shrimp asserts its doneness!

  • When the raw translucent shrimp turns pinkish, with opaque & slightly whitish flesh, and vibrant reddish tail, it shows that the shrimp is cooked to perfection.
  • If the color seems too much whitish, then the shrimp is definitely over-cooked.

How to Cook Shrimp on the Stove

You can cook shrimp on the stove within 5 minutes (2 minutes prepping & 3 minutes frying)!

Things you’ll need:

  • 10-12 shrimps (skin removed and de-veined)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • A pinch of salt (or as per taste)
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • A pan & spatula

Cooking Process: Pan-Fried

Step 1: Heat the pan on the stove over medium-high flame.

Step 2: Add the butter, and let it melt. Now, add the prepped shrimps.

Step 3: Stir fry the shrimps for 2 minutes and adjust the flame to medium-low heat.

Step 4: Add the salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Sauté for another minute before transferring them to the serving plate!

Serve the fried shrimps immediately by sprinkling freshly chopped coriander leaves and a wedge of lime.

Tip: Do not leave the shrimps in the pan after turning off the flame. Since the pan is still hot, the shrimps will continue cooking. Therefore, become over-cooked and rubbery.
