Pan Fried Walleye Recipe – Simple & Easy To Do

1. Pan-Fried Walleye Recipe


  • Two walleye fillets
  • ¼ cup of extra virgin olive oil + 2 tablespoons olive oil for frying
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cornmeal
  • 1½ teaspoons dried oregano
  • A wide shallow frying pan & 2 shallow dishes


Step 1: Place the pan on the stove at medium-high for pre-heating.

Step 2: In a shallow dish, add the olive oil (1/4 cup) and mix it with the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder seasoning.

Step 3: Make the dry mixture with flour (1/4 cup), cornmeal (1/4 cup), & oregano. Spread out half of the dry mix on a plate evenly.

Step 4: Dip the fillets in the oil mixture first and then place them in the dry mix. Coat the top of the fillets with the remaining dry mix.

Step 5: Drizzle some olive oil (about four tablespoons) into the hot pan. Place the fillets and deep fry each side for 5 minutes. It would help if you were careful when you put walleye in the hot pan because the oil will pop out a lot. A perfectly fried walleye fillet has a 150F internal temperature.

Serve the pan-fried walleye fillets by brushing them with melted butter and garnishing them with freshly chopped parsley leaves.

Walleye fishes are high in mercury. Especially the freshwater walleye found in Lake Fontana and Lake Santeetlah contains a high amount of mercury.

Therefore, it is advised to consume protein-rich walleyes once a week for a meal. In a month, it is best to limit consumption to 2 walleye fish for adults (both men and women) and only one whole walleye for kids (0-12 age group).
