As a self-proclaimed taco lover, I’m always on the hunt for new fillings and toppings to mix up our weekly taco nights. These spicy shrimp tacos with cool avocado crema are definitely a new favorite. They pack so much flavor into every light and fresh bite.

Between the tender shrimp tossed in a zesty chili-lime marinade and the creamy, dreamy avocado sauce, these tacos truly sing. Piled high in warm corn tortillas and garnished with all the fixings, they transport you straight to the beach with one taste. It’s the ultimate weeknight meal that feels like a vacation.

Best of all, the components come together quickly for an easy, crowd-pleasing dinner. Here is the recipe to serve 4

1. Spicy Shrimp Tacos with Avocado Crema


For the Shrimp

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt and pepper

For the Crema

  • 1 avocado
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • Lime juice to taste
  • Salt to taste

To serve

  • 8 small corn tortillas, warmed
  • Shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, hot sauce (optional)


In a bowl, toss shrimp with olive oil, garlic, chili powder, cumin, red pepper flakes, lime juice and salt/pepper. Let marinate 20 mins.

Meanwhile, mash avocado in a bowl then stir in sour cream, milk and season with lime, salt.

Heat a skillet over medium-high. Add shrimp mix and cook 2-3 mins per side until pink. Serve shrimp tacos topped with avocado crema, lettuce, pico and hot sauce if liked. Enjoy!
