Egg noodles make for a satisfying and comforting addition to many classic dishes. Dry egg noodles require only water and a brief cooking time before integrating them into your favorite recipes. In this article, I will instruct you how to cook egg noodles in 2 different ways.
1. How To Cook Egg Noodles on Stove
Ingredients
- 8 oz (225g) dry egg noodles
- 1 teaspoon salt (for the cooking water)
- Optional: 1 teaspoon oil (for tossing the cooked noodles)
Instructions
Start by filling a large pot with approximately 4-6 quarts of water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water and place the pot over high heat. Bring the water to a rapid boil.
Once the water is boiling, carefully add the dry egg noodles to the pot. Gently stir the noodles with a wooden spoon or tongs to ensure they don’t stick together.
Allow the noodles to cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender but still have a slight bite to them (al dente). The cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the noodles, so be sure to check the package instructions.
When the noodles are cooked to your desired doneness, drain them in a colander. Be sure to position the colander in the sink or over a large bowl to catch any excess cooking water.
If you plan to use the noodles in a dish that won’t be simmered further, you can rinse them briefly with cold water. This helps to stop the cooking process and remove any excess starch from the noodles, preventing them from sticking together.
After draining and rinsing the noodles (if desired), you can toss them with a teaspoon of oil to prevent them from sticking together as they cool.
Now that your dry egg noodles are perfectly cooked, you can incorporate them into your desired recipe.
